Hartley & Co. has been quietly placing families in Manhattan and Brooklyn townhouses since 1978. We do this because we believe a townhouse is a thirty-year decision, and that the relationship between broker and buyer should outlast the transaction by twenty-five of those years.
We currently take on about twenty-eight new buyer engagements per year across the firm. This is roughly half what a brokerage our size would normally accept. We chose this number deliberately.
We interviewed seven brokers when we started looking. We hired Hartley because they were the only firm who told us not to buy the first house we asked about. Two years later, they were right.
Every Hartley engagement is led by one of four partners. Associate brokers support, but the partner is the contact, the negotiator, and the signature on the contract.
